Spring Clean Your Eating Habits

Spring is finally here! We often think about spring cleaning our homes, there is no time like the present to spring clean your diet. Spring Clean Your Eating HabitsFollow these tips to clean up your diet, create new healthy eating habits, and gain a fresh start for spring.

  1. Drink water – start with an 8 ounce glass of water first thing in the morning when you wake up and before every meal.
  2. Swap soda – fruit flavored water it a great alternative to sugary drinks. My favorite is mint and orange slices.
  3. Get rid of the bad stuff – rid your fridge and pantry of trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, added sugar, refined grains and excess sodium.
  4. Add fiber – fiber helps keep you full, make sure your breakfast has around 8 grams of fiber.
  5. Choose smart snacks -nuts, seeds, fruit, vegetables, hummus, or low fat Greek yogurt make great snacks.
  6. Stock up on fruits and veggies – have a fruit, vegetable or both at every meal or pack your smoothie full of them.
  7. Stop eating out –  get int he kitchen, start by planning your meals and you will be less likely to eat out.
  8. Swap sugary yogurt – yogurt can be full of hidden sugar, look for a low fat plain Greek yogurt topped with fresh fruit. Greek yogurt is packed with healthy probiotics that can help get your gastrointestinal system back on track.

Don’t overwhelm yourself, pick one or two changes to your diet each week and before you know it you have created new healthy habits.
