Creative ways to fit exercise into your day…

When it comes to fitting exercise into your busy schedule, think outside the box. You don’t need to spend hours in the gym to get theWoman exercising at home results you want. It’s pretty simple, right? The more you move the more calories you burn. Easier said than done. Here are some fun ways to get yourself motivated and fit exercise into your day.

1. Squeeze exercise into smaller segments. Research has shown you do not need to workout for one or two hours straight to get results. Break up your exercise into 10-15 minute segments through out your day.

2. Seize the moment! If I’m running low on time I may do exercises such as squats, push-ups,  plank or triceps dips while I’m waiting for the shower to warm up. Triceps dips and push-ups can be done on the edge of your bathtub.

3. While I’m brushing my teeth I may do calf raises. Or stand on one leg. Balance is extremely important and something that is usually neglected in most exercise programs.

4. A great idea is to put together a “house cleaning workout”. Start by making a list of chores you would like to accomplish. Then make a list (see below) of easy body weight exercises that can be done anywhere. Alternate by doing 5-10 minutes of housework and one set of exercises. Watch how quickly you check off your list and accomplish a workout at the same time!

  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Plank
  • Jumping jacks
  • Push-ups
  • Triceps dips
  • Alternating step up on your stairs
  • Ice skaters
  • You get the picture :o)

5. Do your children participate in sports? Instead of sitting on the sidelines take a walk or perform a circuit of body weight exercises. Get your friends involved.

6. While catching up with a friend on the phone hit the road and go for a walk or do walking lunges across the floor. It’s amazing how quickly you can logs some miles when you’re on the phone with a friend.

7. Watching your favorite show? Get up and start moving during the commercials. Use the list above and perform an exercise during the entire commercial break. This is also a great time to stretch or foam roll.

8. Yoga can be done anytime and anywhere. Learn a few basic yoga poses and try one several times throughout the day.

9. Walk to work, take the stairs, park farther away. These are all simple ways to move more in your day.
